Scientifically known as Pinus nigra and more commonly known as the Eurpoean Black Pine, this evergreen tree is a native of southern Europe, expanding from Spain to Turkey and southward to north Africa. The wood is said to be very similar to the Scotch pine and Red pine, but tends to be a bit softer and not as strong because of it's faster growth rate. The Austrian pine tree is found most often used for general construction, paper, and as a renewable fuel source.

This magnificant evergreen tree in the landscape makes an excellent windbreak or focal point. It is tolerant of a wide variety of soils, as well as being heat & drought tolerant as well as cold hardy. A moderate to fast grower, the Austrain pine when mature will reach heights of 60 feet with a 20 to 40 foot spread. Plant this one in full sun to achieve best growing results. Grows best in Zones 4-7.
